German fourth seed Mona Barthel booked her place in the semi-finals of the Swedish Open in Bastad with a straight-sets win over home favourite Rebecca Peterson on Friday.
World number 164 Peterson was broken twice in the opening set but put up a sterner test in the second, pushing Barthel all the way to a tie-break before falling 6-1 7-6 (7/3) in 88 minutes.
Barthel will play Lara Arruabarrena in the last four on Saturday after she came through against Slovakia's Jana Cepelova, who retired injured when trailing 6-3 5-2.
Sweden's Johanna Larsson delighted the home fans by upsetting Czech third seed Barbora Strycova 6-2 6-3 and she will face Kazakhstan's Yulia Putintseva, who beat Klara Koukalova 6-3 6-4.
