Unseeded Diego Schwartzman claimed a shock victory over second seed Grigor Dimitrov in the final of the Istanbul Open to win his first ATP World Tour title.

The 23-year-old Argentinian was playing in his first final at this level and battled back from a set and a break down to win 6-7 (5/7) 7-6 (7/4) 6-0.

The match was close fought despite 58 ranking places between the pair but it was Bulgaria's world number 29 Dimitrov who claimed the first set after edging the tie-break.

Dimitrov had the chance to win his fifth ATP World crown in the second set, breaking his opponent twice to move 5-2 ahead but Schwartzman fought back to take the match into a deciding set.

The South American carried that momentum into the final set and reeled off six successive games without reply to clinch his maiden title.

Dimitrov said on the ATP website: "I started cramping at 5-2 in the second set. It was very unfortunate that I couldn't close out the match. I have to give credit to Diego."
