Rain leaves Heather Watson waiting to complete comeback

Heather Watson's bid for a comeback victory over Monica Niculescu was held up by rain at the WTA Hobart International on Wednesday.

The Guernsey-born 23-year-old responded well after losing the first set on a tie-break, winning the second set convincingly and storming into a 3-0 lead in the decider.

She was 6-7 (3/7) 6-2 3-1 up against the Romanian fourth seed when rain ended the evening's play, meaning the second-round encounter will conclude on Thursday.

"It just wouldn't be right if I didn't have at least 1 rain delay @HobartTennis My record is 6 in 1 match #loveit" Watson tweeted, alongside a picture of the drenched court, before play was abandoned for the night.
