Top seed Karolina Pliskova made light work of having to play twice on Saturday as she surged into the final of the Aegon Open in Nottingham.

The world number 18 was forced to play both her quarter-final and her semi-final within two hours of each other after rain had wiped out virtually all of Friday's schedule.

But that did not seem to bother her as she followed up a last-eight win over Australian Ashleigh Barty with a 54-minute demolition of Monica Puig, triumphing 6-2 6-2.

Pliskova, who has seen all of the other top seeds fall around her during the early part of the week, said: "Tennis players are used to this so it wasn't really a big deal for me.

"I was happy with my performance, I played much better than the first match."

Pliskova will meet American Alison Riske in the final as she averted any danger against Saisai Zheng in the other semi-final.

Riske, ranked 89 in the world, eased past her Chinese opponent in a 6-1 7-5 success.

Pliskova had earlier booked her place in the last four with a hard-fought quarter-final win over Barty, triumphing 7-6 (7/2) 7-6 (9/7), while Puig had seen off Tamira Paszek 6-4 6-3.

Riske, who resumed the quarter-final that she started on Friday, was too strong for Anett Kontaveit, winning 6-3 6-3.

Tara Moore's impressive week came to an end as she was beaten by Zheng. The Brit was playing in her first WTA Tour quarter-final but went down 6-2 6-4.

At the Ricoh Open in 's-Hertogenbosch America's Coco Vandeweghe made her first final of the 2016 season.

Vandeweghe beat compatriot Madison Brengle 6-4 6-2 to set up a clash with France's Kristina Mladenovic, who came from a set down against top-seed Belinda Bencic to win 2-6 6-3 6-4.
