British number two Heather Watson lost 6-3 0-6 6-1 to Kateryna Bondarenko of Ukraine in the first round at the Internationaux de Strasbourg.
After breaking Watson at 4-3 to take the opening set, Bondarenko found herself on the back foot as the 23-year-old from Guernsey reeled off six straight games to level.
However, following an interruption for rain it was the world number 62 who regained control of the match with another break chance, as she went on to close out victory in just over an hour and a half on Court One, breaking Watson three times in the final set.
