David Felgate to coach British rising star Katie Swan

Britain's most promising teenager, Katie Swan, is to work with Tim Henman's former coach David Felgate.

Swan, 17, reached the final of the Australian Open juniors two years ago and has made some encouraging progress in the senior game.

She would surely be ranked higher than her current mark of 383 but for a number of niggling injuries and is the shining star in an age group with a dearth of high-class talent in Britain.

This is a key stage in Swan's career as she looks to move towards the top 100 and Felgate is one of Britain's leading and most experienced coaches.

The 52-year-old coached Henman for nine years, guiding him into the top 10 and to two Wimbledon semi-finals, and has since worked with the likes of Xavier Malisse, Nicole Vaidisova and, most recently, Croatian Donna Vekic.

Felgate is also a former performance director at the Lawn Tennis Association and is heavily involved in Junior Tennis Coaching, currently Britain's foremost coaching programme.

Swan is from Bristol but has been based in the United States since her father's job moved over there in 2013.

Last year she became the youngest player to represent Britain in Fed Cup and made her senior grand slam debut at Wimbledon.

Felgate will travel with the teenager to all her tournaments and Swan will split her training weeks between the UK and the IMG Academy in Florida.
