Richard Gasquet will face French compatriot Jeremy Chardy for a place in the semi-finals of the Stockholm Open on Friday.

Second seed Gasquet raced into a 6-1 2-0 lead after just 32 minutes of play before his second round opponent Steve Darcis had to retire with an injury, while Chardy saw off Federico Delbonis in straight sets.

"It was not the way I wanted to win, Steve is a friend," Gasquet told the ATP Tour. "It's a tough week, with lots of very good players, but I will try my best."

Sixth seed Chardy was made to work harder for his passage into the last eight, losing six first service points before ultimately seeing off Delbonis 6-3 7-6 (7/2).

Tomas Berdych and Grigor Dimitrov will also go head-to-head in the quarter-finals after they beat Alexander Zverev and Nicolas Almagro respectively.

Top seed Berdych cantered through the first set without facing a break point, before finishing off 18-year-old German Zverev 6-3 6-4.

"I'm happy with the way I handled the match, and it's always helpful to win in straight sets," Berdych said.

"There were some ups and downs, but it went well in the end. The conditions were pleasant. I was able to use my experience well to get past a guy with a great future in front of him, and I wish him well."

Dimitrov needed just an hour and eight minutes to see off Spain's Almagro 6-2 6-4.
