Gilles Simon earns three-set win to reach Estoril Open quarter-finals

Top seed Gilles Simon fought back from a set down to defeat fellow Frenchman Paul-Henri Mathieu and reach the quarter-finals of the Estoril Open.

Simon turned things around after a slow start to win 3-6 6-2 6-1 and set up a clash with eighth seed Pablo Carreno Busta, who defeated Taro Daniel 6-4 7-5.

Home favourite Joao Sousa was unable to make it through despite winning the opening set against Nicolas Almagro, with the Spaniard hitting back to triumph 4-6 6-1 6-2.

He will face seventh seed Leonardo Mayer in the quarter-finals after the Argentinian saw off Paolo Lorenzi 7-6 (7/5) 6-4.
