Pablo Andujar overturned the odds with a straight-sets win over his fellow Spaniard David Ferrer to book a meeting with top seed Kei Nishikori in the final of the Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell.

Andujar got the better of a first-set tie-break to take it 7-6 (8/6) in the clay-court tournament, and then won the second 6-3.

The world number 66 had previously never beaten his compatriot in three attempts, b ut Ferrer, seeded three, could not get a foothold this time.

There was no upset for the form book in the other semi-final, however, Nishikori sweeping past Martin Klizan 6-1 6-2.

The Slovakian suffered a double disappointment too, when he and his Pakistani doubles partner Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi lost a tightly-contested semi-final 6-4 7-6 (7/4) to Jamie Murray and John Peers.

The Briton and the Australian will face Marin Draganja and Henri Kontinen in the final.
