Top seed Caroline Wozniacki held her nerve in a final-set tie-break to book her place in the final of the Pilot Pen Tennis in New Haven, Connecticut.

The Dane, who was named as top seed for the US Open earlier this week following her Rogers Cup win in Montreal, lost the first set to Russia's Elena Dementieva 6-1.

She fought back to take the second 6-3 and set up a decider, but was on the brink of making an exit when Dementieva served for the match at 5-4. But Wozniacki secured a break and held her own serve, before taking the tie-break 7-5 in a match lasting two hours and 35 minutes.

The other women's semi saw eighth seed Nadia Petrova recover from a set down to beat Maria Kirilenko 2-6 6-2 6-2.

An excellent serving display helped Sergiy Stakhovsky reach the final of the men's draw after he defeated 12th seed Thiemo De Bakker 6-3 6-4.

The Ukrainian only conceded 10 points on his serve and did not face a single break point as he eased through and he will hope to continue his run of having won every ATP tournament in which he has reached the last four.

Stakhovsky will meet Denis Istomin after he beat Viktor Troicki 7-6 (12/10) 3-6 6-2. If Istomin wins the final he will become the first player from Uzbekistan to win an ATP Tour title.
