Tara Moore's hopes of reaching her first US Open main draw are over after the British number four lost to Germany's Antonia Lottner in the second round of qualifying.

Moore took the first set 6-1 at Flushing Meadows but a lengthy rain delay halted her momentum as Lottner came back to win 1-6 6-3 6-2.

The 24-year-old has only made the main draw of a grand slam at Wimbledon, where she achieved her best career-performance earlier this summer by reaching the second round.

The world number 171 started strongly here too, breaking Lottner three times in the opening set before bad weather stopped play for around 45 minutes.

When the contest resumed, the momentum had flipped, as Lottner clinched seven of the next eight games, including the second set to force a decider.

The German world number 184 never looked back, storming into a 4-1 lead in the third, and finally sealing victory in one hour and 38 minutes.
