Sixth seed Lesia Tsurenko beaten in first round of Katowice Open

Sixth seed Lesia Tsurenko was the biggest casualty in the first round of the Katowice Open as she lost to Switzerland's Stefanie Voegele.

The Ukrainian world number 42 struggled on her serve throughout, holding just twice in a 6-4 6-0 defeat.

Britain's Heather Watson is also heading home early having been beaten 6-2 3-6 6-4 by Czech world number 88 Kristyna Pliskova in just under two hours.

Ninth seed Kirsten Flipkens sailed through to the last 16, the Belgian beating Donna Vekic of Croatia 6-1 6-4, while Russia's Elizaveta Kulichkova saw off 17-year-old Belarusian wildcard Vera Lapko 7-6 (7/4) 6-0.

In the day's other first-round encounter, Romania's Andreea Mitu recovered from dropping the first set to beat Romina Oprandi of Switzerland 4-6 6-2 7-5.
