Petra Kvitova remains on course for a third successive title at the Connecticut Open after breezing past Eugenie Bouchard to seal a quarter-final spot.

The fifth-seed, who followed up a 2012 triumph with more success in 2014 and 2015, was too strong for the Canadian, winning 6-3 6-2.

She appeared in trouble at 1-3 in the first set but soon clicked into gear, winning 10 games on the trot with some brutal hitting to set up a last-eight tie with Ekaterina Makarova.

Second seed Roberta Vinci also made safe passage as she needed only 59 minutes to get past Ana Konjuh 6-2 6-2. Vinci will meet Johanna Larsson next after the Swede beat Shelby Rogers 7-6 (7/1) 6-4.

Kirsten Flipkens earned a quarter-final meeting with top seed Agnieszka Radwanska after she edged a tight encounter with Caroline Garcia 7-6 (7/3) 7-5.
