Petra Kvitova and Lucie Safarova to meet in Connecticut Open final

Petra Kvitova will face Lucie Safarova in an all-Czech final at the Connecticut Open after surviving an early scare to beat Caroline Wozniacki.

Kvitova had lost to Wozniacki in their previous two meetings and looked in danger of suffering another defeat when she conceded a set point at 5-3 down in the first set.

The two-time Wimbledon champion, however, came storming back to win nine out of the next 10 games and claim a 7-5 6-1 victory.

"It was a most difficult first set," Kvitova told wtatennis.com.

"I was really focusing and every game was so close - a few points and it would have been on the other side."

The victory means the Czech has now reached four consecutive finals in New Haven and she will play compatriot Safarova for the title on Saturday.

"I just like New Haven," Kvitova added.

"I just like this Centre Court and the crowd was amazing, full today.

"I'm really happy that you came and watched many champs here on the court and I'm really happy that I can play finals again."

Kvitova has a spotless record against Safarova, winning all six of the pair's previous matches, including a straight-sets win in the Wimbledon semi-final last year.

"I think many people in the Czech Repunlic will watch the match, for sure," Kvitova said.

"We know each other well, with Lucie, on and off the court.

"We're practicing as well, a lot in Czech. I know how she plays, but she's getting better and better. I really have to be prepared for tomorrow."

Safarova overcame Ukraine's Lesia Tsurenko 6-2 7-6 (7/4) to reach her third WTA final of the season.

The world number six will take particular confidence from the victory given she plays Tsurenko again in the first round at the US Open on Tuesday.
