A pair of New Haven specialists will meet in the semi-finals of the Connecticut Open after Petra Kvitova and Caroline Wozniacki won through on Thursday.
Kvitova, a two-time winner of this tournament, rallied to beat seventh seed Agnieszka Radwanska 7-5 6-4 and take another step towards defending her title.
The second seed trailed 5-3 in the opening set and was behind again early in the second set before eventually finding a way to win.
"It wasn't only about the serve today," the Czech said on the WTA website. "She was returning really well. It was a good match from both of us and I'm happy that I'm in the semi-finals."
She will now face four-time champion and third seed Wozniacki, who brushed side Caroline Garcia 6-3 6-0 in under an hour in the late game of the day.
The other semi-final will pit fourth seed Lucia Safarova against lucky loser Lesia Tsurenko.
Safarova had to battle past Dominika Cibulkova 6-7 (4/7) 6-4 7-5 in a match which lasted just shy of three hours while Tsurenko dispatched fifth seed Karolina Pliskova 6-2 6-2 in a little over an hour.
