Britain's Naomi Broady bowed out of the Rogers Cup to lucky loser Varvara Lepchenko.

The 26-year-old from Stockport was expecting to face French Open winner Garbine Muguruza in the second round but saw her plans change when the Spaniard pulled out shortly before the contest with a reported stomach upset.

Qualifier Broady lost the first set to her 30-year-old American opponent 6-4 but won the second 6-3 to square the match in Montreal.

However, Lepchenko got the decisive break in the third set and held her nerve, taking the first of two match points to wrap up the decider 6-3 and the match in one hour and 54 minutes.
