Anastasija Sevastova overcame Kristina Kucova 4-6 7-6 (7/0) 7-6 (7/3) while Yuxuan Zhang needed two hours and 41 minutes to overcome Hiroko Kuwata 5-7 7-6 (7/3) 6-2.
In the day's other first-round match, Miyu Kato was a 7-6 (7/1) 6-3 winner over Sherazad Reix.
