Unseeded pair Magda Linette and Yanina Wickmayer reached the Japan Women's Open final with impressive wins over Christina McHale and Ajla Tomljanovic respectively.

Linette came from a set down, and from a break down in both the second and the third, to beat sixth-seeded American McHale 3-6 6-4 6-3.

McHale took the first set after converting the only break point for either player and a Linette double fault gifted her an immediate break at the start of the second, but the Pole broke straight back and then surged into a 4-1 lead en route to levelling the match.

Linette again came from a break down in the third set, levelling at 3-3, and a McHale double fault left the world number 84 serving for the match at 5-3 and she took her first match point.

Wickmayer earlier upset seventh seed Tomljanovic 7-5 6-2.

The first set was on serve almost all the way but Wickmayer had created more opportunities and, with her seventh break point of the set, finally found a way through.

It was to prove decisive as the Belgian pulled away in the second set, breaking twice and saving the three break points she faced.

The 25-year-old, currently ranked 86th in the world having at one point been as high as 12th, will be seeking her first tour singles title since 2010.

Linette, 23, will be playing in the biggest match of her career, her only previous final having come in doubles alongside Alize Cornet in Guangzhou last year.
