Johanna Konta's impressive recent form continued as she booked a place in the quarter-finals of the Rogers Cup on Wednesday.

The British number one clinched her maiden WTA Tour title with victory over Venus Williams at the Bank of West Classic in Stanford on Sunda y.

And after knocking Shelby Rogers and Vania King out of this week's WTA event in Montreal, Konta excelled against third round opponent Varvara Lepchenko.

The Briton grabbed the second of two break points in only the second game of the match, putting her on the way to winning the first set 6-3 in 31 minutes.

Sydney-born Konta was quick out of the blocks in the second set too, breaking in the first game and following up with another in the fifth.

There was no way back for Tashkent-born American Lepchenko - second round conqueror of Britain's Naomi Broady - and Konta wrapped up a 6-3 6-2 success in an hour and seven minutes.

The 25-year-old will face Eugenie Bouchard or Kristina Kucova for a place in the semi-finals.
