British number two Jo Konta says she will treat herself to a hamburger as reward for beating Austrian Tamira Paszek to qualify for the first round of the US Open.

Konta overcame Paszek 6-4 3-6 6-2 at Flushing Meadows to become the only British qualifier in the main draw after Kyle Edmund, Naomi Broady and Brydan Klein all fell at the final hurdle.

The world number 96 joins Heather Watson and Laura Robson in round one of the women's tournament, where she will now face American wild card Louisa Chirico.

"I've just qualified for the US Open so I'm going to enjoy this," Konta said.

"We work very hard for these moments and I'm looking forward to maybe having a burger tonight."

It means Konta takes her place in a third grand slam tournament of the year, after playing in the French Open and Wimbledon first rounds, and continues an excellent run of form which now includes 13 singles wins in a row.

Her best result at a major tournament remains reaching round two of the US Open in 2012.

The 24-year-old had to come from a break down in the final set against Paszek, who is ranked 260 in the world, before sealing victory in two hours and nine minutes.

"It wasn't easy, she really made me work for it," Konta said.

"She raised her level and I dropped mine a little bit. Nothing was certain in that third set.

"I had to dig deep and I ran down every ball I could, I'm just happy I came through in the end."
