Latvian teenager Anastasija Sevastova claimed easily the biggest win of her career as she defeated top seed Jelena Jankovic in the first round of the Monterrey Open.
The 19-year-old, ranked 72nd in the world, produced an impressive all-round display to secure a 5-7 6-4 6-4 win.
Jankovic, ninth in the WTA rankings, continued her run of unimpressive form this season. In four events so far, she has failed to reach a quarter-final.
Third seed Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova had no such problems in her first-round match as the Russian overcame Georgian qualifier Anna Tatishvili 6-1 6-2.
Agnes Szavay, the fifth-seeded Hungarian, was forced to go to a third set but eventually overcame German Julia Goerges 6-3 3-6 6-3.
Czech player Iveta Benesova produced an impressive fightback to oust American Jill Craybas, lifting her performance after dropping the first set to win 3-6 6-2 6-1.
Two more Czech players bowed out, though, as Germany's Anna-Lena Groenefeld beat Lucie Hradecka 6-2 6-4 and France's Alize Cornet ran out an easy 6-3 6-1 winner over Barbora Zahlavova Strycova.
Other winners on day two were Italy's Sara Errani, Slovenian Polona Hercog, Estonia's Kaia Kanepi and Austrian Patricia Mayr.
