Halep into the last four

Simona Halep continued her winning habit in 2015 as she saw off Sara Errani to reach the semi-finals of the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in Stuttgart.

Halep recorded her WTA-leading 26th win of the year with a 6-4 6-4 victory over Errani, who was able to make a fight over it as she broke Halep's serve four times in the opening set only to continually surrender her own.

"I'm happy because I need matches at the beginning of the clay season," Halep said on the WTA website. "So, it was good that I had a tough opponent in the first round (Garbine Muguruza) who was hitting the ball very strong, and today I had a different one."

Halep will now face Caroline Wozniacki, who wrapped up a comfortable 6-0 6-3 win over Carla Suarez Navarro.

Sixth seed Ekaterina Makarova is out, however, going down 6-3 6-2 to Germany's Angelique Kerber.

America's Madison Brengle fought back after losing the first set to claim a 3-6 6-3 6-3 victory over Caroline Garcia of France in an hour and 37 minutes in the final match of the day to set up a last-four clash with Kerber.
