Garbine Muguruza had to recover from a set down for the second time in succession to overcome Zhang Shuai and advance to the Miami Open fourth round.

The sixth seed got the better of the number 30 seed with a 4-6 6-2 6-2 triumph in just over two hours.

"It was another tight match, and I think she played very well," Muguruza told reporters. "I remember that match we played in Doha, and it was like today basically.

"I think I played well, as well. That first set was just a few points of difference honestly. And then in the second set, I came stronger. I said, 'Look, if yesterday I could come back, I can today as well.'

"Since I've started the year, I've had a lot of matches like this, and I'm expecting that every time I go on court. A win is a win, I don't wish to have matches this tough every day, but I'm very happy with the way I'm facing them."

Mirjana Lucic-Baroni turned in a sublime display to upset the fifth-seeded Agnieszka Radwanska.

She only needed just over an hour to secure a 6-0 6-3 victory and set up a date with American wildcard Bethanie Mattek-Sands.

Mattek-Sands lost the opening set of her clash with the 17th-seeded Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova but regrouped to earn a 4-6 6-0 6-3 victory.

Second seed Karoline Pliskova eased to a 7-5 6-3 triumph over Yulia Putintseva, while the fourth-seeded Dominika Cibulkova had little trouble in a 6-2 6-3 win over Kirsten Flipkens.

Lucie Safarova a relatively straightforward win of her own as she beat Ajla Tomljanovic 6-1 6-3 and Barbora Strycova saw off Jana Cepelova 6-3 6-4.
