Fourth seeded Russian Elena Dementieva squeezed into the semi-finals of the Pilot Pen Tennis in Connecticut with a 6-3 3-6 6-2 win over former Wimbledon finalist Marion Bartoli.
But second seed Sam Stosur was dumped out in emphatic fashion by another Russian, Nadia Petrova, who took just 53 minutes to defeat Australia's French Open finalist 6-2 6-1.
Former world number one Dinara Safina continues to struggle and she was beaten 6-3 6-3 by Russian compatriot Maria Kirilenko in the third women's quarter-final of the day.
In men's action, Dutchman Thiemo De Bakker booked his place in the semi-finals with a comfortable 6-4 6-3 win over Evgeny Korolev of Kazakhstan.
