British players Heather Watson, Naomi Broady and Tara Moore all had a day to forget as they went out of the Aegon International in Eastbourne.

British number two Watson was beaten 6-2 6-3 by Russian Elena Vesnina and wild card Moore lost 7-5 6-4 to another Russian, Ekaterina Makarova.

Broady had to wait until the evening to begin her match against Puerto Rican qualifier Monica Puig as they were last to play on Centre Court.

But Broady fared no better than her fellow Britons, losing 6-1 6-1.

On Court One, Canada's Eugenie Bouchard had a comfortable 6-1 6-2 win over qualifier Varvara Lepchenko from the United States.

There was also a win for Germany's Andrea Petkovic, who defeated China's Saisai Zheng 5-7 6-2 6-4.

Australia's Daria Gavrilova was leading Slovakia's Anna Karolina Schmiedlova 3-0 in the first set when play was suspended due to bad light with the match due to be completed on Tuesday.
