Caroline Wozniacki continued her impressive build-up to the US Open by defeating Nadia Petrova to secure the Pilot Pen Tennis title in New Haven, Connecticut.

The Dane, the top seed for the final grand slam of the year at Flushing Meadows, won the Rogers Cup title in Montreal on Monday and she set herself on the way to a third-straight New Haven title as she took the first set 6-3 against Russian Petrova.

The eighth seed hit back to take the second set 6-3 and force a decider, but Wozniacki came through that 6-3 after Petrova lost her first service game of the final set.

In the men's final Sergiy Stakhovsky continued his record of having won every ATP Tour event he has got the to semi-finals of as he beat Denis Istomin 3-6 6-3 6-4.

Istomin, aiming to become the first player from Uzbekistan to win an ATP title, started well and comfortably took the first set.

But Stakhovsky hit back to take the next two sets 6-3 6-4.
