Laura Robson's talent remains clear for all to see but she was unable to make it count as the former British number one lost to Angelique Kerber in the Wimbledon first round.
Robson was desperately seeking a morale-boosting victory after two years ridden with injury but Kerber, the reigning Australian Open champion, proved her class with a 6-2 6-2 win.
It means Robson has now failed to go past the first round of a grand slam since the 2013 US Open and she will have to qualify at Flushing Meadows in August, as her protected ranking runs out.
