Jamie Murray and partner Bruno Soares completed a marathon win over Mate Pavic and Michael Venus to reach the Wimbledon quarter-finals.

Murray and Brazilian Soares led by two sets to love and had a break in the fifth but were pegged back each time and the match was suspended due to darkness on Monday with the fifth set level at 13-13.

Murray and Soares needed only four games to clinch victory when the match resumed on Tuesday, taking it 6-3 7-6 (7/3) 4-6 4-6 16-14.

They brought up a first match point in the 30th game and converted it thanks to a fine return from Soares.

The pair won their first grand slam men's doubles title in their first tournament together at the Australian Open in January, which helped Murray climb to world number one.

He reached the Wimbledon final last year with former partner John Peers but lost to Jean-Julien Rojer and Horia Tecau.

In the last eight Murray and Soares will play either eighth seeds Vasek Pospisil and Jack Sock or French pair Julien Benneteau and Edouard Roger-Vasselin.
