Biography
Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez has had some success in singles in the past, reaching a career high of No. 37 in June 2009 and winning the 2009 Copa Sony Ericsson Colsanitas. She was also a runner-up at the 2008 Barcelona KIA. As a junior she won the 1999 Orange Bowl, a year-ending tennis event for junior players.
She has had much more success in doubles, reaching a career high of No. 14 in April 2009. She has won eight doubles titles: four with Anabel Medina Garrigues and four with Nuria Llagostera Vives.
She was accused of cheating and poor sportsmanship in her 2009 French Open match with Serena Williams, she eventually lost the match to Ms. Williams.
