Biography

The younger sister of professional tennis player Alyona Bondarenko, Kateryna Bondarenko was born in Kryvyi Rih, Ukraine, then part of the Soviet Union. She was introduced to tennis by her parents at age 4. She turned pro in 2000, as of May 04, 2009 she is ranked World No. 61 in singles and World No. 33 in doubles by the Women's Tennis Association. Her career-high rankings in singles and doubles are World No. 37 and World No. 9, respectively.

She pulled off the biggest singles win of her career so far at the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix held in Stuttgart, Germany, by beating Ana Ivanovic, the fifth seed at that event, in three sets. She lost in the quarterfinals to eventual runner-up Tatiana Golovin.

She represented Ukraine at the Beijing Olympics, falling to Dementieva 6-1, 6-4. In doubles, Alona and she reached fourth place after they lost in the third place decider.
