Kei Nishikori, who made history as the first Japanese player to win the Japan Open at the weekend, moved up to a career-high 15th in the latest ATP rankings released on Monday.
Nishikori, who had feared injury had ended his career, beat Canadian Milos Raonic in three sets to claim his first ATP Tour title in four years on Sunday, and move up two spots in the world rankings.
Jo-Wilfried Tsonga takes sixth place after reaching the finals in Beijing at the weekend. The 27-year-old French player moved ahead of Czech Tomas Berdych who dropped to seventh after his elimination from the quarter-finals in Tokyo.
World number two Novak Djokovic, who overcame Tsonga in straight sets on Sunday to win the China Open for a third time, closed the gap but remains second behind Swiss leader Roger Federer.
