Gonzalez set to retire

Former world number five Fernando Gonzalez of Chile revealed Thursday that he intends to play three more tournaments before retiring.

"I've decided to end my career as a professional player in Miami," said 31-year-old Gonzalez of the tournament which begins on March 21.

The 2007 Australian Open finalist and four-time Grand Slam quarter-finalist will also play in tournaments in Sao Paulo and Buenos Aires.

During his 12-year career he won three Olympic medals - silver in Beijing in 2008 and bronze in Athens and doubles gold at the same 2004 Games - and 11 ATP titles.

The last two seasons he has been hampered by a string of injuries including to his hip and knee, meaning he has dropped to 268th in the world.

"I made my mind up three weeks ago. It was difficult to play at Vina (del Mar)."
