British teenager Oliver Golding followed in Andy Murray's footsteps by winning the US Open junior title on Sunday, justifying his decision to give up his dreams of being a film and stage actor.
Golding beat top-seeded Czech Jiri Vesely 5-7, 6-3, 6-4 to take the trophy won by Murray in 2004, but it was his previous spell as an actor which was prompting most interest at Flushing Meadows.
The Londoner had roles in Mike Leigh's film, "All or Nothing" and co-starred with horror movie king Christopher Lee in "The Adventures of Greyfriars Bobby".
In London's West End, the 17-year-old appeared in "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang" and "Madame Butterfly".
"I did a little bit of everything really. I was on stage and did a couple of small movies," he said.
"I've been in front of big crowds, there's been pressure on me in that respect and that's going to help me in the future."
