Keothavong targets Fed Cup return

Anne Keothavong is aiming to return to action after injury in Britain's Fed Cup tie against Portugal in February.

The Londoner has been sidelined since suffering knee ligament damage in July but was named in the GB team on Monday. "To make my comeback from injury at the Fed Cup will be tough but hopefully we can perform well and move GB into the World Group," said Keothovang, 26.

The GB team for the tie in Lisbon also features Elena Baltacha, Katie O'Brien and doubles specialist Sarah Borwell. Baltacha is the British number one, ahead of O'Brien and number three Keothavong. Team captain Nigel Sears said: "This team is a reflection of the progress that the girls have made again this year.

"Three singles players are all in the top 100 and now competing on the main tour. "Sarah, our doubles specialist, is also in the top 100 and playing doubles on the main tour. "Katie and Elena were automatic singles choices after the great year they have both had. "For Anne it is a magnificent effort in itself to have made selection after her major knee surgery in the summer. "We are going to Lisbon with our strongest team and I feel good about our chances of promotion. We came so close last year but I fully understand how tough this group is to get out of."
