Although the game is known worldwide as Tennis the name differs slightly in some countries. In England the game is known as Real Tennis or Royal Tennis, in the USA it's called Court Tennis and in France the games is called Jeu De Paume (Hand ball). The game can be traced back to the 5th century, In Tuscany the game was played along the streets, the ball was struck by the hand instead of a bat which is why the French call the game Hand Ball.

The game has been played for thousands of years and was very popular with the Royals in the 16th and 17th century. In the mid 1870's Lawn Tennis was introduced, played on a marked out court without side or end walls.

Tennis is played with a racket adn a rubber ball, the game is for either two or four players (singles or doubles). The idea is to strike the ball into the other players half of the court in the attempt they will either miss the ball, hit the net or hit the ball out of play, the game continues until one of these occur. Each game is based on winning points starting both players on 0-0. The first point is known as 15 then 30, 40 and then last last point is the game point winning that game. However if the players are level on 40 points each the game is then tied and this is called deuce, when this occurs the players then have to win two clear points to win the game.
