Barcelona Ladies Open

Barcelona Ladies Open is a tennis tournament for women held in Barcelona, Spain and is played on red clay. It is an International-level tournament on the WTA Tour with total prize money of US$220,000. It was a Tier V event from 1988 to 1989, and for 1990, it was Tier IV. It was promoted to Tier III in 1991 and then Tier II in 1993, before it was re-introduced on to the WTA Tour over a decade later, and became Tier IV.

Barcelona Ladies Open

In the 1970s, the event was known as the Spanish Championships, and became known as the International Championships of Spain in the 1980s and 90s. In 1996, it was replaced on the WTA Tour by the Madrid Open, before Barcelona came to host a new event in 2007.
