Minar completes 4-1 victoryIvo Minar defeated Chilean debutante Cristobal Saavedra-Corvalan 76(2) 62 to seal a superb 4-1 victory for Czech Republic at the Davis Cup by BNP Paribas World Group quarterfinal in Coquimbo. Before Minar took to the court, Jorge Aguilar gave the home fans something to cheer about as he overcame Lukas Dlouhy 61 76(6) to get Chile off the mark. The outcome of the tie had long since been decided, however, with Jan Hajek teaming up with Dlouhy to clinch the vital point in Saturday’s doubles rubber, defeating Nicolas Massu and Aguilar 76(3) 63 36 63. The visitors had already been handed the perfect start when Hajek and Ivo Minar recorded routine singles victories on the opening day. Surprisingly, the two Czech players dropped just eight games in six sets against a Chilean team that is normally so solid at home.Overall, it was an impressive performance from the Czechs given they were missing their top two players, Radek Stepanek and Tomas Berdych and one that demonstrates the strength in depth at captain Jaroslav Navratil’s disposal. The Czechs will be on the road again in the semifinals in September, when they travel to Serbia, bidding to reach the Final for the second straight year.Related links> DavisCup.tv> Twitter> Tie information> Audio interviews> Scorecards & stats> Czechs book semifinal spot> Czechs race into shock lead> Massu and Minar to start in Coquimbo> Berdych joins Stepanek on sidelines> Gonzalez ruled out of Czech showdownRelated websites> Informacion en espanol - FTCH> Information in Czech - CTA Related Audio Interview with captain Hans Gildemeister (CHI) - Sunday Interview with captain Jaroslav Navratil (CZE) - Sunday If you cannot hear the audio, then please update your media player by following one of the links above.
