The International Tennis Federation says American Alex Bogomolov is eligible to play for Russia in the Davis Cup.

A Davis Cup Committee ruled Thursday that the Moscow-born Bogomolov can compete for Russia against Austria in the first round of the Davis Cup beginning February 10.

Bogomolov, who has dual citizenship, moved to Florida in 1992 and has represented the USA at tournaments since turning pro nine years ago. He has never played in the Davis Cup.

Bogomolov is one of the most improved players on the ATP Tour going from No. 166 at the end of 2010 to No. 33 in November.

The ITF determined that Bogomolov's case met 2012 regulations allowing national federations just three months instead of six months prior to a match to submit a request for the player that holds dual nationality to represent the country.
