US Open champion Stan Wawrinka kept his winning run going with a straightforward victory over Lukas Rosol in the second round of the St Petersburg Open.

Wawrinka, who had a first-round bye, was playing his first match since defeating Novak Djokovic to win his third grand slam title in New York a week and a half ago.

The Swiss world number three needed just 58 minutes to see off Czech Rosol 6-3 6-1.

Fourth seed Roberto Bautista Agut survived a final-set tie-break against Ricardas Berankis to win 4-6 6-1 7-6 (7/2) and reach the quarter-finals.

It was a good day for the home players, with Mikhail Youzhny, Andrey Kuznetsov and Andrey Rublev all winning their first-round matches.

Top seed Dominic Thiem made a winning start to his Moselle Open campaign with a 7-5 7-6 (7/2) victory over German qualifier Peter Gojowczyk in Metz.

World number one doubles pair Nicolas Mahut and Pierre-Hugues Herbert both won their first-round singles matches while fellow Frenchman Julien Benneteau moved through to the quarter-finals with a 6-3 6-4 win over Dustin Brown.
