Defending champion Tomas Berdych retained his Shenzhen Open title to move a step closer to a place at the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals.

Top seed Berdych beat Richard Gasquet 7-6 (7/5) 6-7 (2/7) 6-3 and moves to within 330 points of Rafael Nadal, who currently holds the eighth and final place in London.

Berdych dropped his serve in the opening game but immediately broke Gasquet back and claimed the set in the tie-break on his first set point.

The Czech served for the match in the second set but Gasquet broke to love before dominating the tie-break to level the match.

Berdych broke with a 4-2 lead in the third set but this time he did not fail as he served for the match.

Karen Khachanov clinched his maiden ATP World Tour title with victory over Albert Ramos-Vinolas in the Chengdu Open final.

The 20-year-old Russian came from behind to beat the Spaniard 6-7 (4/7) 7-6 (7/3) 6-3 in two hours and 39 minutes.

Khachanov won the title after a Ramos-Vinolas forehand went long and it will see him move into the top 100.
