American Steve Johnson secured his first career ATP tour title by triumphing in Nottingham on Saturday at the Aegon Open.

The 26-year-old from Redondo Beach, California, edged out Uruguayan Pablo Cuevas 7-6 (7/5) 7-5 in the final warm-up tournament before Wimbledon starts.

He capitalised on two of his three break chances, all of which came in the second set after a serve-dominated opener, to secure the trophy and prize money of 86,850 euros (£70,600).

Johnson is due to begin his Wimbledon campaign against Tunisian Malek Jaziri on Monday.

British doubles player Dominic Inglot was also celebrating after he and Canadian partner Daniel Nestor defeated Ivan Dodig and Marcelo Melo to take the doubles title, as 7-5 7-6 (7/4) victors over the top seeds.
