Sixth seed Jiri Vesely beat Thiemo de Bakker 6-3 7-5 to move into the second round of the TEB BNP Paribas Istanbul Open.
There was also a victory for Marcel Granollers, the fifth seed from Spain, who came though against Cem Ilkel of Turkey following an extended second-set tie-break to win 6-1 7-6 (9/7).
However, number seven seed Teymuraz Gabashvili is out after the Russian lost 6-4 6-2 to 23-year-old Bosnian Damir Dzumhur.
British number two Aljaz Bedene suffered a first-round defeat to Russian wildcard Karen Khachanov, losing 4-6 7-6 (7/4) 4-6 against the 19-year-old who had also knocked him out of the Barcelona Open last week.
Korean Hyeon Chung beat Carlos Berlocq of Argentina 6-2 6-3 to secure a second-round clash with Granollers.
