Philipp Kohlschreiber is through to his fifth Munich final after beating Fabio Fognini 6-1 6-4 in the BMW Open semi-finals.

Kohlschreiber, who was beaten in the final last year by Andy Murray, made light work of last-four tie as Fognini struggled to find his stride.

The German will be looking to win his third Munich title, having won in 2007 and 2012, and will face Dominic Thiem in the final.

Thiem beat Alexander Zverev 4-6 6-2 6-3 to surpass Novak Djokovic for the most match wins on tour this year.

Zverev had knocked out top seed David Goffin in the quarter-finals but Thiem played a powerful game to make it through to his third final of the year.
