Pablo Carreno-Busta scored an upset in the quarter-finals of the Estoril Open, dispatching top seed Gilles Simon in straight sets.

The Spaniard, ranked eighth for the tournament, needed less than an hour and a half to seal a 6-4 6-3 win over and remains in the hunt for a first career title.

Nick Kyrgios will have something to say about that, the Australian second seed having seen off Borna Coric 6-4 6-4 in even shorter order.

He finished runner-up at last year's inaugural event and will hope to go one better this time.

Argentina's Nicolas Almagro is his opponent in the last four having beaten Leonardo Mayer 6-4 7-6 (7/5).

Benoit Paire will play Carreno-Busta in the semis having already defeated his compatriot Guillermo Garcia-Lopez 7-6 (7/2) 6-2.
