Nicolas Almagro was among those to join British pair Kyle Edmund and Dan Evans in the second round of the Barcelona Open.

Edmund and Evans both secured clay-court victories on Monday and Spaniard Almagro did too, seeing off Canadian qualifier Steven Diez in straight sets.

Andreas Seppi also advanced without dropping a set, as did Marcel Granollers, Albert Montanes and Casper Ruud.

Big-serving South African Kevin Anderson had to come from behind to beat Carlos Berlocq 2-6 7-6 (7/4) 6-3, while wildcard entry Tommy Robredo was eliminated by Yuichi Sugita.

At the Gazprom Hungarian Open, Viktor Troicki needed less than an hour to beat Evgeny Donskoy 6-1 6-2.

Sixth seed Paolo Lorenzi also advanced, as did Martin Klizan, while Laslo Djere progressed courtesy of Daniil Medvedev's retirement.

Steve Darcis was knocked out, though, despite winning the first set against Damir Dzumhur.
