Marcos Baghdatis shocks David Goffin in Rotterdam opener

Former Australian Open finalist Marcos Baghdatis stunned fourth seed David Goffin to reach the second round of the ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament in Rotterdam.

The Cypriot is ranked 61st in the world - 45 places below the Belgian - and triumphed 6-1 5-7 7-6 in two hours 20 minutes.

Baghdatis dominated the first set but Goffin fought back to level and then claim a break in the third.

The 30-year-old broke straight back to take the decisive set to a tie-break and then reeled off five successive points to claim victory.

Fifth seed Gael Monfils eased through comfortably with a routine 6-4 6-4 win over Ernests Gulbis.

Two experienced hands clashed as 32-year-old Philipp Kohlschreiber edged out Julien Benneteau 6-4 6-4.

At the opposite end of the age scale, 19-year-old Hyeon Chung beat Guillermo Garcia-Lopez 5-7 6-4 6-4.

Australian Open champion Jamie Murray suffered defeat in the men's doubles as he and Daniel Nestor, the third seeds, went down 6-2 5-7 10-8 Philipp Petzschner and Alexander Peya.
