John Millman reached the semi-final of an ATP World Tour event for the first time after dumping out top seed Richard Gasquet at the Winston-Salem Open.

The Australian, ranked 81 in the world, saw off the Frenchman in straight sets, winning 7-5 6-3 with five break of serves throughout the match.

Millman told atpworldtour.com: "No matter what level, every tournament I go in to compete, to do my best and to win. To be honest, at the start of the week I was a bit busted physically because of the long weeks at the Olympics and in Cincinnati. But now I'm moving great and I'm hitting the ball really well. It's a treat to be here. The conditions are great and suit my game well."

Millman will now take on Spaniard Pablo Carreno-Busta for a chance to make the final after he beat Andrey Kuznetsov 6-4 6-3.

Second seed Robert Bautista Agut enjoyed a safe passage as he produced a 61-minute 6-3 6-2 demolition of Yen-Hsun Lu, setting up a meeting with Serb Viktor Triocki - a 6-4 3-6 6-4 winner over Fernando Verdasco.
