Defending champion Guillermo Garcia-Lopez survived a battle with Guido Pella to keep his hopes of a second successive BRD Nastase Tiriac Trophy alive in Bucharest.
Garcia-Lopez saved a match point in a 7-6 (7/5) 3-6 7-6 (8/6) victory over Pella that lasted more than three hours to book his place in the semi-finals.
There the fourth seed will face fellow Spaniard Fernando Verdasco, who defeated Robin Haase 7-6 (8/6) 6-3.
The other semi-final pits third seed Federico Delbonis, a 6-2 6-2 winner against Marco Cecchinato, against in-form Frenchman Lucas Pouille, who defeated seventh seed Paolo Lorenzi 4-6 6-4 7-5.
