Fabio Fognini sweeps into second round in Miami

Fabio Fognini swept into the second round of the Miami Open with a 6-4 7-5 win over Ryan Harrison.

Fognini made it two wins out of two against the American to set up a second-round clash with 30th seed Joao Sousa.

Yoshihito Nishkoka prevailed in a two-hour battle against Jordan Thompson to advance after a 1-6 6-4 -63 victory, while France's Beoit Paire saw off Martin Klizan 7-6 (7/4) 6-3.

Nicolas Mahut coasted to a 6-3 6-2 win over Michael Mmoh and Facundo Bagnis also encountered few problems on his way to a 6-2 6-2 triumph over Jeremy Chardy.

Donald Young beat Dustin Brown 6-3 1-6 6-2 and Argentina's Federico Delbonis overcame compatriot Juan Monaco 7-5 7-6 (7/4).

American hopes Taylor Fritz, Jared Donaldson amd Ernesto Escobedo delighted the home crowd with victories.

Kevin Anderson, Jan-Lennard Struff, Viktor Troicki, Jiri Vesely, Guido Pella and Dudi Sela also secured passage into the second round.
