Fourth seed Nikolay Davydenko recovered from a set down to advance to the second round of the Barclays Dubai Tennis Championships on Tuesday.

Davydenko dropped the first set in a tie-break to France's Florent Serra but hit back to take the next two 6-4 6-1.

Seventh seed Mikhail Youzhny was made to work much harder for his place in the next round, the Russian recovering from a set down to beat Slovakia's Lukas Lacko 6-7 (3/7) 7-6 (7/5) 6-1.

There were also victories for Janko Tipsarevic over Andreas Seppi, Michael Berrer over Sergiy Stakhovsky and Tommy Robredo over Julien Benneteau.
